SSH/SOCKS endpoint

I want to use my home router as an ssh endpoint for a socks proxy. I've searched for how to do this directly on my router, but have come up blank - most likely the answers exist, but my question is wrong.

I have a couple of questions - forgive my naivety, but I'd love help.
  • Is it possible to set up an ssh tunnel from a client to my home router (running merlin 380.58)?
  • Can this be configured in the web UI, or do I have to do it via the shell? (if via shell will it survive router restarts?)
  • Will this compromise security on my home network in any way?
Thanks guys!

  • Yes

  • YES! If you do this I would very strongly advise public key authentication and a non-standard ssh port to mitigate risks
Note that last point was not to deter you, but you realize that you're opening up your port to the world. I myself have this setup. Just need to be careful :)
