We have an office that uses an HP Windows Home Server for file access.
The remote access to that WHS box works fine for file access when on the road.
We also have a Filemaker Database and Quickbooks on computers.
I would like to access both of these.
Filemaker can be accessed via:
a) a SSL VPN
b) opening the port to filemaker
Quickbooks can be accessed via:
a) a go_to_meeting type screen sharing program.
What benefits do I get on a network by using a VPN to get to filemaker as opposed to just opening a port? VPN requires more hardware but there must be other benefits beyond security? I just don't know. Will a VPN dop a go_to_meeting / screen sharing program work easyer?
Ease of use is paramount. VPN seems not so ease of use.
