Storage Question

Is there a stable storage software at a good price point that is VMware 5.0 certified and preferably other than MS?

Not sure I quite understand the question, "Storage Software" what do you mean, you mean NAS operating systems? or do you mean actual hardware NASes?

NASes that provide iSCSI target capability work just fine with VMWare. If you mean FreeNAS/OpenFiler/UnRaid/Nexenta/WHS - I don't think you should have a problem running them as guest OS's

FreeNAS - FreeBSD, OpenFiler -Redhat, Nexenta - Solaris

I've installed FreeNAS as a VM no problem.

Hope that helps

I've heard of several of these products, but you didn't mention Open-E. I've heard that Open-E does the same thing but much cheaper than other options. Any experience?

Now you wouldn't be trying to take advantage of my and SNB's good nature would you? Creating some google-bait and free advertising for some Stoneham, Mass company that sells iSCSI products?

If that is the case, that isn't very nice. If I'm wrong, my Bad.

FreeNAS, unRAID, Nexenta, OpenFiler, OpenIndiana, Ubuntu server, CentOS all work for providing iSCSI targets for VMWare - For Free, can't get much cheaper than that. My understanding from googling, and finding alot of threads like this one (huh!), is that Nexenta, and its pay-for kissing cousin NexentaStor is significantly faster than the product you mention.

I'm sure you will explain why Free isn't as cheap.
