Hi

I am facing a strange issue..
I have an AC66u with the newest merlin build: 3.0.0.4.374.35_4

I have a fiber-router from my ISP which is running as follows:
I bought a static IP from my ISP to be able to use my asus as main router with dhcp etc.

IP settings
10.0.0.1 with dhcp limited to 10.0.0.2-10.0.0.5

a cat6e cable to my asus router
wan port: 10.0.0.2

lan range: 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.254

All my devices are connected to my asus with either wifi or cat6e cables.

if I run a speedtest on laptop with cable:

186Mb/s down - 184Mb/s up
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3193012056

If I take the speedtest with cable directly into the ISP router I get:

461Mb/s down - 729Mb/s up.
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3192970885

I tried the test again with the same cable that normally goes in my asus.. same result.. around 460Mb/s down - 729Mb/s up.

So I know the cable is delivering speeds well above the 200~ I am getting via my asus.

So the question is.. where's the problem.

I checked QoS.. which is off..

Any ideas where I might start? any info you need to help solve the problem?

Does it say hardware acceleration is on?

This result is indeed in line with performance from the router when HW acceleration is not enabled. Go to Tools -> Sysinfo, and confirm that it reports HW acceleration as being enabled - if it's not, it will tell you why.

hw accelleration is indeed enabled. That's what's strange..

I just tried a complete factory reset.. just to make sure some setting hadn't screwed something up..
but after setting just the simplest things up.. the result is the same..

any other ideas?

would MTU have anything to do with speed?

mine is default: 1500

and whatever windows sets on my server/laptops..

No other idea, sorry. You might want to check with your ISP or with other users of that ISP. Some ISP do some very weird stuff that will cause issues whenever you use anything but their own pre-configured routers.

1500 should be the normal MTU for a regular DHCP-based access (but then, some ISPs have been known to do pretty silly stuff such as using a LARGER MTU, breaking all kind of equipment that can't handle those larger MTUs). You could always double check with your ISP what MTU your router should be using for optimal results.
