syslog.log in /jffs

I recently updated the firmware to 384.13 and noticed there are syslogs in /jffs which are frequently being written to. I have a syslog server configured via the WebUI, and it is receiving the same data.
Why is it still writing to jffs, isn't this excessive and will cause it to wear out quickly?

It sends to the remote syslog server in addition to the local log file.
