I came across this curiosity today, an AC1750 USB 3.0 dongle powered by a Realtek chip.

Never heard of the company before, but it seems to be a Taiwanese company. The company is called Tamio and the dongle is the U17. It retails for around $62 locally.
The English product page can be found here http://www.tamio.com.tw/Product/ProductDetails/U17_USBWirelessadaptor?ProductID=SPFsq6YP.1

claims to have 4T4R antennas , why would it need 4 if its just 3T3R standard 1750M? and being realtek will compare to the dlink dearhstar dwa-192 usb adapter which in my testing performed ok for a non pce wireless ac 3 x 3 adapter

just gotta love the form factor of the deathstar

The is a feature/quirk of the realtek chipsets - that extra RF chain is used for link estimation only on the receive side - so while technically, yes, it's four Rx, only 3 of those radios transfer data (one for each spatial stream).
