Terminating to an ON-Q panel

New Around Here
I just moved into a house that has the setup pictured. From what I read that setup is only phone line however it can be setup for ethernet which is what I want. I purchased the same Network Patch box that is in the picture from the original posting. My question is 2 parts: Did I buy the right thing and is there a science to this over and above being able to match colors?

Thanks in advance

I can't tell from your post what you are trying to use for a patch panel.
See this for information on properly terminating.

this is the patch panel:

I'm stumped on what to do. I don't do networking at all. What I thought to do was wire the patch panel which would then make the outlets in the rooms ethernet ports and then go from my router to this panel to make them live.

Does that make sense?

You have the basic idea down. The problem is implementation.

As I understand it, the panel you purchased is just RJ45 jacks stuck into a panel. So you would have to pull the cables from the current phone patch panel and terminate them on the RJ45 jacks.

The panel should have come with a punch-down tool to help you do this.
The jacks should have a color coding on them that you can match wire colors to.

The jacks might be marked with two termination schemes, the T568 A/B methods I referred to in the previous post link. Choose one of the schemes and use it for all the terminations.
