So, I'm looking to get a new router.

The ones I'm looking at are RT-AX86U, GT-AX11000 and GT-AXE11000.

I know most ppl like the 86U, but I would like to try a 11000. Would the AXE be worth a premium?

Both 86U and regular 11000 are similar in price today only. Any oppinions?

Always worth trying/testing new things. No progress/discovery is made otherwise.

If you go into this with your eyes wide open, and the benefits are equal or greater than your expectations and your current router, keep the one with the least tradeoffs.

I went with a GT-AX11000 as my main unit, then RT-AX86U via AiMesh. Works perfect.
I made the GT-AX11000 my main router about two years ago. I use my RT-AC5300 as my node, which I have own since 2016. I run 8 Nest cameras along with 26 other wifi devices and these two are the only routers that have work well for my system. Only watch outs are the firmware updates. I usually come back to this forum to see if anyone with these two models have had any problems with updates. The update for the GT-AX11000 last one, 11-1-21 386-45898 caused problems so I went back to the firmware from 7-8-21 44266, which I have stayed with since I have not had any problems. I see there are two new updates, 11-10-21 45934 and 1-11-22 46065, but I did not upload yet. Also, the RT-AC5300 has a new update 1-25-22 46065, but I decided not to upload since I am not having any issues.

You might want to try out 46065. It’s been tested extensively and the majority of people like it. Very stable and there are quite the security fixes and other improvements for this version of the firmware.

Personally I will stay on this one / merlyn .5 version which is buil on this 46065/ for quite some time… my ax88 likes it a lot!

If I update to 46065 on my RT-AC5300, which is hardwired to my GT-AX11000, can it cause any problems to it?

The GT-AX11000 is twice as much as the RT-AX86U here. I got a RT-AX86U recently and been happy with it. Best range I ever got and been super stable. The GT-AX11000 is probably great but it wasn't even in the running for me due to price.

Anyone with a GT-AX11000? Have you updated to the new firmware, 11-10-21. 386-45934
and 1-11-22 386-46065? Any problems? Stable? Thank you.

I bought the GT-AX11000 (A1.1) about 3 months ago and it is stable with both the latest official and Merlin FWs. It's WiFi coverage however, is only slightly better than my old AC68U (A2). The biggest disappointment however, is that 5GHz-1 has much worse range than 5GHz-2 (due to the Canadian 5GHz regulation), and 160MHz is only available for 5GHz-1. That means it is practically a dual band router without 160MHz unless your computer is very close to the router. Consider I got it for free, I just live with its shortcomings. But if I have to pay for it, I would have it refunded and kept using my trusty AC68U because there's no practical difference for web browsing, gaming (same ping surprisingly) and streaming.
