I am having some difficulties configuring the WDSync software for a WD My Cloud network-attached hard drive storage box. WD tech support told me to "download and install the UPnP Wizard to determine the external ports assigned to the My Cloud by your router. My Cloud devices with the most recent firmware updates external UPnP port assignment should be between 9000 and 9999."

So I did that and it reports this about my RT-AC68U running John's Fork firmware:

UPnP My Cloud ports:
WD2go 192.168.1.9 / 71.11.107.116, TCP, internal 9091, external 80
WD2soSSL 192.168.1.9 / 71.11.107.116, TCP, internal 9444, external 443

So what really are typical port assignments? Is my installation fouled up, or did WD get it backwards?

Thank you!

I have no experience of WDSync but those ports look credible. Some firewalls (think corporate or hotel) only allow outgoing http and https connections. So mapping those external ports to the dynamic 9000-9999 internal ports is a way of ensuring the storage box can be reached from the remote location.

You should be able to confirm those mappings on the System Log > Port Forwarding page.

This looks backward to me. Internal should be 80 and 443, and external would be 9091 and 9444.

That log makes it look like the app they directed me to has it backwards. The RT-AC68U reports:

Source___ Destination_Proto_Port range_Redirect to__Local port_Chain
ALL _____ ALL_______TCP_ 9091 ____ 192.168.1.9 __80 _____ VUPNP
ALL _____ ALL_______TCP_ 9444 ____ 192.168.1.9 __443 ____ VUPNP
ALL _____ ALL_______UDP_50802 ___ 192.168.1.170_50802 __ VUPNP

which seems to me that 9091 & 9444 really ARE external ports, redirected to 80 & 443 internally--just the opposite of what the UPnP Wizard reports.

Thank you!

I was thinking the same. My reply to Colin has the RT-AC66U log.

I noticed that the link you gave was for an older version of that software. I've installed the latest version and the info looks correct. There's a note in the change log since the earlier version about the columns being wrong.
No kidding! I just followed the link WD tech support sent me. Well, now we know. The router is right, the old app is wrong, and my ports are where they should be. Thanks to all--this is why so many people inhabit this forum.
