Upgraded from AX88U to BE88U

I've finally upgraded my router from a AX88U to a BE88U (running Merlin 3006.102.4).

I setup router afresh, after noticing down my static IPs (with MAC address) and my port forwarding for my NVR & server PC.

I also added a 2.5G PCIe NIC to both my server PC & desktop PC.

Latency in my game I play went down from 18ms to 11ms.

Speed of transferring files from desktop to server is definitely a LOT faster :)

Only issue I had, was I had to disable Wi-Fi7 on the 2.4G Wi-Fi, else my smart bulbs wouldn't connect properly (kept connecting then disconnecting).

Still have Wi-Fi7 enabled on the 5G Wi-Fi, as that's used by my Apple devices (mainly).

Overall, very pleased with the new router :)

You can also use the IoT network for these clients. It's specifically intended for those incompatible IoT devices, as many advanced wifi features are disabled by default on that network.

Ok thanks for that info.

I just kept things simple for now whilst I switched from one router to the other.

Later, I'll setup a dedicated 2.4G IoT network for my smart bulbs, smart plugs, nvr, alarm, doorbell & external spotlight camera.

I had one of those, but unfortunately had to RMA it with a failure on both 10Gb WAN ports. I may buy one again, because the speed was very nice, and the extra RAM also helped (compared to the RT-AX88U PRO I'm currently (re-) using). Since my WAN-link currently is only 1,1 Gbps I don't really need that kind of speed, but I like to be future-proof since my fiber-connection is finally on the way (or so my ISP promises).

I did the exact same upgrade move as you. One thing to bear in mind - Asus' built-in IoT networks constatly failed for me. The best way is to set up a "Customized" network and set it the way you want it. If you want to send IoT devices over a VPN then do that via VPN Director.

Ok thanks for that. I'll do that when I get some free time next week.

Weird. Haven't noticed a problem with it.
Particularly @bennor's response (#9)
Yes it's about IoT VPN, but if that's flaky the rest of Asus' IoT can be regarded as shaky at best. I know how I want my guest networks to behave.
