Upgrading RT-AC87U from Merlin 380.65_2 to the latest 384.13_10

Last time I upgraded the RT-AC87U was quite a few years ago.

In the last few months, the Wi-Fi connections of 5Ghz networks are very weak. The wired connections are fine. I have not moved the router, nor I added any furniture that may block the router.
I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the old firmware.

I would like to upgrade it to the newest possible firmware 384.13_10.
I presume I have to do a factory reset before the upgrade and after the upgrade enter all the settings manually?

I am also using jffs partition as I remember. I don't know if I need it but, in any case,, can I restore this partition from the backup?

Also can someone point me out to a link how to do the upgrade properly.

Jumping from v380.xx to v384.xx on the temperamental RT-AC87U, I would recommend doing the following.

Flash to the firmware you want to use first.

Fully Reset Router and Network


Do not 'blindly' put in any old settings. Many things have changed between these versions. Give the router the best chance to perform at its best.
