USB and Wifi throughput HORRID?!

New Around Here
Hey everyone quick question! Recently purchased the RT-AC66U and am experiencing major problems?

What are the expected read/write rates for the USB ports given that the drives that I have tested can all handle well over 50MB's. I have tested on a few computers both over gigabit lan and also wireless N (synced up @ 300Mbs). I am only getting around 5-6MB's transfer rate.

I have done the usual tests
- Made sure proper cat6 cables
- throughput computer to computer directly through modem was transferring around 115MBs
- USB Drive hooked up directly to PC transferring to another PC via cable/router hovered around 70MB's (USB3 drive)
- Wireless not worth discussing but will go through later in post.

The other issue I have is the throughput on the wifi. All devices synced up perfectly maxing out wifi connection (wireless N synced up @ 300Mbs) yes transfer rates are hovering around the 5-6MB's rate as well... this includes going from internal sata drives which can copy over LAN @ 115MBs.

The internet connection I am having hooked up syncs up around 100-125Mbs and I REALLLY don't want to be bottle necked by a brand new modem bought soley so that it could handle the speeds and SHOULD handle much more.
I would do a dead on arrival swap with the store I purchased from but unfortunately just past the deadline for that and didn't realize the situation in time. The turnaround for a manufacturer test/replacement is around 3 weeks.

Sorry for the essay!

Any help would be much appreciated!

BTW wanting to try Merlin's FW ASAP but don't want to mess up my warranty as you can imagine.

The USB protocol depends on the power of the CPU, so it is not surprising to get 5-6 MB/s transfer rate. I get that too with my AC66U. The maximum throughput you will see on USB2 drives are 20-30 MB/s (depending on chipset and CPU) anyway.

You will need to provide more info on your wifi setup. 2.4 or 5 GHz? What is the wifi card in the client machine? Could you try with another wireless client?

You can always try Merlin's fw and see if it improves performance. If you need to send it back for RMA just flash back the ASUS stock firmware.
