New Around Here
Good morning.

I've begun to observe a few weird issues with my AC86U running Merlin 384.10.

I've got both Diversion and Skynet installed to a USB drive plugged into the USB 3 port on my router, formatted EXT4.

I'm getting 100% cpu across both cores as of late and, more recently, noticed that the drive is disconnecting and not reconnecting back to the router.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I may be able to configure to correct?

Sounds like a hardware issue if the drive is disconnecting. That would also cause the high CPU load.
As it stands right now, the USB is not connected and the cores are functioning normally. All other functions (Wireless/LAN/etc) are functioning fine.

But the moment I plug the drive back in, that's when the symptoms reoccur. It's also worth mentioning the USB drive is brand new (Kingston DataTraveller 16GB)

A high CPU load for a period of time after plugging the device in is not unusual. How long that lasts for would depend on exactly what services are running on the router that access the USB drive. If however the drive is disconnecting itself then that would be consistent with a hardware issue.

Look at the router's syslog for hardware error messages. Log into the router and run top to see what is consuming the CPU.

I would recommend following the guide above. Note that I recommend USB 2.0 mode for the USB 3.0 port. :)

I would also suggest flashing to a more recent RMerlin firmware before then too. ;)

So;

I'm hesitant to call this issue resolved -- but I've pulled the USB out of the 3.0 socket and into the 2.0 socket. I had the USB 2.0 Mode for the 3.0 slot previously set, or at least, I believed I had.

I've monitored it through the day and I'll keep an eye on it to see if the CPU spikes again and/or disconnects.

Thanks for everyone's replies thus far.
