I have both USB partitions in use - one is for the daily traffic monitor data and the other is for amtm/Entware/Diversion etc. Q: If I needed to create a partition on one of my USB flash drives (e.g., for use by another script), can that be done from the GUI or do you have to use something like xShell or WinSCP? Also, would it matter which of the flash drives were used?

I don't know what you mean by "both USB partitions in use". USB devices can be formatted with multiple partitions, just one or even none. They don't only have two partitions. Or are you talking about the two physical USB sockets on the router?

Sorry Colin, I get confused sometimes (I think it's probably an age-related thing). What I meant to say was, I have two flash drives connected to my router, one being used as a backup for the daily traffic history and the other formatted for use with amtm and associated scripts. What I'm not clear about is, if I were to install a further script (not via amtm) that needed storage space on a separate partition on a flash drive, which flash drive would be the one to use and how would I create the additional partition (for instance, can it be done while connected to the router, either via the GUI or something like xShell or would I need to create the new partition using my computer, perhaps using something like EaseUS Partition Master)?

You can re-partition a device using EaseUS, MiniTool, or even amtm on the router itself (or from an SSH session using fdisk and mkfs).

If you use amtm be aware that it is a destructive process and you will loose any data on the device. After the device is re-partitioned each partition is reformatted.

With EaseUS or MiniTool you have ability preserve the existing data by "shrinking" the existing partitions to make space for a new one provided they are not formatted as ext2/3/4. Then only the new partition needs to be formatted.

But the real question is why do you need to create a separate partition at all? Each partition needs free space so the more partitions you have the more inefficient the use of the total space becomes. Can you not simply create a directory in an existing partition and use that for your script?

Thanks for the detailed response Colin. Creating a directory in an existing partition does seem to be the simplest, so I'll keep that in mind as there is no point in making things more difficult if not needed.
