Using VPN provided DNS servers while also blocking with Diversion

First, hi everybody. Been browsing the forum for several years, but finally needed to register because I can't figure this out. I've searched the forums but haven't found a topic on this, or I just suck at searching.

What I'm trying to do is block ads and use the provided DNS servers of my VPN, and possibly also Cloudflare as a backup.

The way I have things configured now is under WAN settings I have DNS over TLS active. Under VPN settings I have Accept DNS Configuration to disabled.

What I've tried is under the VPN client settings is to set the Accept DNS Configuration to both Relaxed and Strict and added "dhcp-option DNS 1.1.1.1" in the custom configuration. Any combination or subtraction of any of those things always shows only Cloudflare as the DNS servers being used. The only way I can get the VPN DNS servers to be used is to set Accept DNS Configuration to strict, but then of course adblocking doesn't work.

Am I completely missing something right in front of me? Can I use the VPN provided servers and also block ads, or use the VPN provided servers and other DoT servers and block ads? Any help? Thanks
