I got Verizon 5g home internet. Overall for the price, I like it but I'm wondering what would be the reason for Verizon ARC-XCI55AX modem (which I'm using in passthrough) would have 1 minute lease time. Anybody?

I have the T-Mobile arc kvd21 and haven't noticed that. Is the lease for the wan or lan? What kind of speeds are you seeing with VZW? I would probably start with a hard reset and see if it grabs new firmware and resolved the issue.

This is how it looks.

I would bypass the Asus and hook up a PC and check the ipconfig output instead.

It might be a glitch in the firmware on the Asus... check the logs as well to see what's happening more in depth.

I run a DIY box connected to my ARC and monitoring things they are a bit chatty with multicast packets. I do occasionally see some logs w/ IP info pop up but, I also have a timer to refresh my VPN connection every 1/2 hour.

Code:
Jul 10 20:02:21 server kernel: [119692.228475] IPv4: martian source 192.168.12.255 from 192.168.12.122, on dev bo0
Jul 10 20:02:21 server kernel: [119692.228497] IPv4: martian source 192.168.12.255 from 192.168.12.122, on dev bo0
Jul 10 20:02:21 server kernel: [119692.228517] ll header: 00000000: ff ff ff ff ff ff 06 7e 4e 62 3b e3 08 00
Jul 10 20:02:21 server kernel: [119692.228519] ll header: 00000000: ff ff ff ff ff ff 06 7e 4e 62 3b e3 08 00

The other thing that comes to mind since these tend to hand out 192.168.x.x. IP's is double NAT. Might be different w/ VZW though and using a CGNAT IP passed to the router. This might be the issue if the MAC isn't in their list it's forcing renews every 60 seconds for some reason. It could be a variety of things but, if you're not actually seeing a degradation in speeds I wouldn't focus on it too much.

I'm getting 310/24 Mbps. I can get higher on my S21 but I can't get their C-band modem. It is about 540/75 Mbps. If I would get a c-band I could reach that probably.

Yeah, I'm seeing the same with TM

600/100 on my phone
400/90 on the gateway I modified to get more speed from.

I'm going to try to bypass asus but when I had ASK modem it was 2 hours but it would get a different IP every time and my VPN would drop. That was a known thing and the reason I was able to get ARC from verizon. With ARC at least IP does not change. I will check the logs on asus as well as I was able to see when IP changes on ASK modem.

Interesting that the log from Asus does no show renew every minute
Jul 9 17:38:06 dhcp_client: bound xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/255.255.255.248 via xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx+1 for 60 seconds.

I'm wondering. Does your ARC's IP is the +1 from WAN IP? Mine is. This is very strange as my ASK(previous modem) had set IP of 192.168.0.1. My asus always had as 192.168.1.1

These 5G gateways - note that the IPv4/v6 addressing is assigned locally from the GW, not from the 5G side.

The IPv4/V6 addressing there is assigned during the EPS attach to the APN - at a very high level, this is like getting assigned IP and routing information on a PPP session.

I think I understand what you are saying but this ARC modem is working differently than the previous ASK Verizon modem and also different from how my Netgear SM500 was set up when I was on Comcast.

btw I'm not using IPv6 on my AX3000 router. Should I?

Over 5G, I would recommend enabling IPv6, as mobile networks are IPv6 first because of the number of devices and mobility across the network, IPv6 simplifies much of that...

At least with T-Mobile, you'll get much better routing with IPv6 enabled.

Which IPv6 should I pick? I have never had a need for IPv6. Also, do I need to enable IPv6 on all PCs? I usually have those disabled.

With TMHI - IPv6 should be passthrough, as you'll then get proper addresses assigned by the gateway

With VZ, not sure, but I would try passthrough first.

With clients, unless you have specifically disabled IPv6 on them, shouldn't need any action - most modern OS's just work with ipv6

All my laptops have IPv6 disabled but I don't have control over my cell phones and tablets. I will try it. It is still strange that IP of the ARC modem is +1 from WAN IP passed through.

@sfx2000 Any thoughts on IP lease?

Is there a guide how to set up AsusWRT for IPv6?

I enabled passthrough but how do I know it works?

Thanks

How did you get a higher speed? ARC has 2 ports but I'm not sure if I can set up a dual WAN on asus to increase speed.
I cracked the case open and put some different antennas on it instead of the small internal PCB antennas.

While this monitoring isn't 100% accurate the signal levels are. The bands for 5G don't get picked up by the app since I know from the phone app 5G is on N41 not B2.

That's odd that they would be handing out more than a /32 single IP to the device and if it's in bridge/ passthrough it shouldn't have an IP on the gateway anyway.

For V6 you just need to enable it in the system settings. On the phones you should be able to set them to IPv4 only in the wifi settings / advanced properties.

That's normal. The Asus doesn't show dhcp_client renew messages in the log. You'll have to look at the GUI information, or create a custom script that logs the renew event.
