Very bad transfer from USB attached disk after upgrade to 378.54_2

Hi,
I upgraded from 378.53 to 378.54_2 so I don't really know which intermediary version could have started this.
Before, with .53 the rate to copy from the USB attached drive over wireless was ~3.5M ...slow imo but was acceptable and I didn't research on it. Now after flashing is just a few 10s of K and eventually fails and even browsing from a third device is impossible while that (some DNS_PROBE_... errors), browsing recovers as soon as copy stops.
Any suggestions?
