Asus RT-AX86U with Merlin 386.3_2 here.

For some reason all WiFi clients expect a really poor speed connection - I cannot do anything, however pings are going OK and hostnames resolves also.
Also it is quite weird the problem is with Android phones only (from different manufacturers), because notebooks work OK (both Windows and Linux-based).
I have played with Wireless settings in router but cannot get any solution. Here is what I have now:

No idea what the hell is going on here...

"all WiFi clients expect a really poor speed connection" Expect?

What speeds are you getting? How far away are the clients from the router?

Is the problem only with 2.4GHz clients, 5GHz clients or both?

Have you tried increasing the TX power to maximum?

1. I cannot explain it. It really looks like the device gets the connection - and after that the speed becomes zero. I open the webpage - and it stops loading at 5-10%. Syncing Dropbox at the first file with change stops because upload hangs. Youtube opens the page with empty videos - videos simply cannot be downloaded to play.
2. Does not matter - both 2.4 and 5.0 are affected.
3. The clients are in one meter from the router. Same as notebooks. Notebooks work, the phone - not. The second phone - also.
4. Yes, I changed TX power to maximum but it does not help.

I would try setting the Modulation Scheme to match the standard of the band, for example I use MCS 7 (802.11n) on 2.4 GHz and MCS 9 (802.11ac) on 5 GHz. When I tried the higher options out of curiosity (the only config change I made at that time), they immediately caused issues with various devices.

Nah, it makes things even worse - the low speed decreased to zero.
I really cannot understand why PCs are working well? Why pinging/resolving/tracerouting is OK?

Damn, looks like my upgrade from AC68 to AX86 becomes a nightnmare...

Can somebody post a default values for Wireless settings (both basic and pro) for RT-AX86U?

By the way the logs are quite interesting:

I can see a lot of Router kernel: CONSOLE messages to my notebook MAC, but none to my OnePlus-7T-Pro phone... maybe this is an issue?

Today I have flashed alpha builds, tried to disable jffs scripts - nothing helped.
After that I reverted back to stable 386.3_2 and performed a full factory reset and set everything from the scratch again.
The settings are the same.
But now everything works.
I don't know what to say...

Flipping options back and forth isn't the same as just leaving them alone in the first place, ime.

When you tried the Alpha builds, did you do a full reset to factory defaults afterward too? Without using a saved backup config file? Or, 'blindly' copying your old settings that worked 'once upon a time'?

The links below may be of help in understanding why. The second link is what I am specifically thinking of here.

Almost all L&LD Links

Why M&M

Nah, it makes things even worse - the low speed decreased to zero.

Something isn't right with your router config then, because setting the Modulation Scheme to match the standard of the bands shouldn't have a negative impact, unlike setting it to the higher, non-standard options.

Like L&LD alluded to. Perhaps it's time for a full factory reset and manual configuration.
