VPN Client to Server networking

I have an RT-AC68U at home running OpenVPN server and it works very well with PC and Android remote clients. I recently picked up a second AC68U with a plan to install it at a remote location and use its VPN client to connect to my home VPN server. I set up a login id and uploaded the .ovpn config file. It logged in first time and I was able to connect to home devices no problem (client to client is enabled).

With the remote Asus VPNed in, I want to be able to connect to devices on the remote LAN from a local home connected computer. I was hoping that client to client meant both ways, but sadly not. I tried adding a static route in the home router but it does not accept it pointing to the remote tun address.

Any suggestions?
