VPN enabled at reboot, prefer an option to that

Noob here; RT-AC66U, 378.55 Merlin build, PIA via OpenVPN.

At reboot, OpenVPN is always enabled. My preference would be to have the previous state (on or off) restored at reboot.

My instinct says this is possible, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Anyone care to enlighten me?
