VPN Performance by Core Assignment

Does the version of Wireguard that runs on Asus AX routers use one or multiple cores ?
If two VPNs (OpenVPN or Wireguard) were in use at the same time on an Asus AX router, would the performance be remarkably different on an RT-AX68U versus an RT-AX86U ?

Wireguard does not yet support hardware acceleration on Asuswrt, but for older platforms that don't support hardware acceleration, like RT-AC68U, RT-AC1900P they might be a real beneficiary, but for now they don't support Wireguard yet.

Wireguard supports multi-threading, which is an advantage that OpenVPN cannot provide, but I cannot confirm whether Wireguard in Asuswrt supports multi-threading at the moment.

Benchmarks reported by @Xentrk show that it is indeed faster than OpenVPN.
