Want to add AP to SIL Xfinity network as quick as possible

Semi talented homeowner here. Like the title says, need to add AP to existing Xfinity install without getting into the gateway if possible. I want do as little as possible. There is already a cat5e going from the gateway to a keystone outlet on the porch (where we want to put the AP) and it passes the termination tests. She is buying a cheap TP-Link router for wifi only that I am configuring by turning its DHCP off, then set the WiFis and passwords to match the existing networks, but instead of assigning a static IP address to the TPlink, set it to get the address from the gateway (don't know the technical term for that ) and plug the network wire into the LAN port.
My question is since I am bypassing the WAN port will the assigned IP from the gateway be accepted by the TPLink or am I forced to manually assign a static IP on the TPLink and go into the gateway to limit the DHCP range? Can't test it out on my home network as she is buying it and i don't have a spare router to play with.

You will have to assign a static IP address.

A better solution would be to configure the TP-Link as an access point. Most wireless routers have this as an option.

If I configure as AP, I plug in the network wire to the LAN port still? For my information, what is the AP configuration doing differently than what I was planning?

Correct. Although quite often in AP mode the WAN port is reassigned to be another LAN port. But you'd have to check the documentation for your specific device.

It disables all the routing related functions of the router as they are not needed. It also turns the device into a DHCP client rather than a DHCP server, so you don't need to configure it with a static IP address. You just plug it into the LAN and it works.

Too much tech for her & doesn't need gig. Only wants to get music and doom scrolling out in the backyard, the porch is covered and price is a factor. The TPLink is $29. thanks for the suggestion as I might use it in the future.
