Web interface slow over VPN

Occasional Visitor
I have a RT-AC1900P and whenever I connect to the Web interface over VPN the performance is terrible. Sometimes it will work well and other times it will hang and stop responding. Anyone else notice this behavior? I am on the latest firmware currently but I noticed the same behavior on previous versions.

I am using OpenVPN 1024-bit encryption.
