I noticed that my ac87u with merlin fw shows up a unknown client it does have same mac as the router itself. Factory reset doesn't change anything.

This won't show up if I run stock fw

I don't have currently installed any amtm plugins.

Is there something wrong with my router, and could that be removed somehow?

This is normal. The RT-AC87U really runs two separate firmware, with two separate CPUs. What you are seeing there is the Quantenna system running within your router.
