I have both routers but currently I am using the E4200 firmware ver. 1.0.05. I would like to try a custom firmware. One that gives me more Qos options like monitoring bandwidth in real time and bandwidth allocation. As stated I also have an Asus RT-N56U that I've never used. Which of the 2 routers, using which custom firmware would give me better range over both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band? The range on the 5Ghz band right now is not that great but I've seen a definite signal gain on the 2.4Ghz band.
I am new to networking and my problem is that there are 3 other people on this network. Two of which are casual users, I'm mostly gaming, fourm-ing, benching or building, the fourth is a mad torrent scientist and it's time to bring all his torrenting to a tire screeching halt. Sometimes I start a game of killing floor with pings in the low double digits and midway into it start spiking into ridiculously high numbers, pings in the 500's and on a 30mb/5mb connection.
I'm dying over here, I haven't played BF3, MW3 or Black Ops 2 in ages help a brother get his game back on. Plus it's my hardware and done properly everyone will be happy.
