when can i charge the iPhone 5s via the usb port on the RT-AC68u?

Probably not anytime soon. The USB Ports are made to connect devices to (preferably externally powered), not charge devices.
 
I did used to charge my Nexus One on my RT-N66U and it worked fine. Might not have been drawing as much current as an iPhone however. And with Apple, who knows what weird requirements their phones might have to accept to charge over USB...
 
Iphone5 charges just fine on 68U via USB2.0, just tried it out of curiosity.
No problems. Not sure how long would it take to get it fully charged or if that would in any way impact the 68's performance... but it works! :)
