Why can't my phones connect to Linksys hidden 5 Ghz networks?

Hi,

I just bought the Linksys 1900ACS.
If the 5 Ghz network is not broadcasting (ie, it is hidden), then neither one of my Samsung phones (5s and 3s) are able to reconnect to the hidden network once I go out of range and then back into range. It always lists the network as being out of range even if I am standing right next to the router.
If I make it broadcasting, then both phones can always connect every time, even after I come back from being out of range.

There is no problem at all with them finding the hidden 2.4 Ghz network.

I even tried turning off the 2.4 Ghz network and the phones will still not find the 5 Ghz hidden networks once I go out of range and come back.

Could this be a Samsung issue with multiple generations of phones, or is this likely to be a problem with the Linksys 1900ACS router? I have the latest firmware.

I called customer support and they said to just reset the brand new router. I did that but it made no difference at all.
Did I just get a lemon, or is this a known problem with this Linksys router?

Thanks!

the issue could be with phone firmware. On my samsung phone i use CM firmware and my developer tablet has no issues connecting to hidden networks. Did you try the same phones on other routers?

the issue is hiding ssid is useless as both a security measure and a connection measure

just gotta love pilling out this old chestnut

The six dumbest ways to secure a wireless LAN
http://www.zdnet.com/article/the-six-dumbest-ways-to-secure-a-wireless-lan/

after reading the above and understanding the consequences of what you are trying to achieve isnt it just easier to use wap2 with aes for everything and forget fake security measures

this way all your client devices will just work

Known issue with Android (and other platforms as well) - no reason to hide the SSID, it doesn't make things more secure...

I don't think its a router issue, I have seen this issue even a few years back with other routers and my old Galaxy S1 when it was a common Android issue that was then fixed, It must be a Samsung firmware issue this time. I have not run into that issue on any Android/Apple device since the last 3-4 years, its surprising that you have it. As others have mentioned here having the SSID visible won't make it any less secure so just enable SSID broadcast.
