Why is there high lag spikes due to my AC88U node?

My AC88U which is located in my room is backhauled wirelessly to my main router the ASUS ROG AC5300 which is in my living room. But I'm facing very high lag spikes when I'm using the wifi in my room. Speed wise, it's actually pretty fast but the high latency is causing me issues when I'm gaming. What should I do? Should i replace the AC88U with another tri band router?
