New Around Here
So I have a new RT-AX88U, current firmware with Merlin. Setup the WireGuard on the router and the client software on Windows 11. It shows active connection on both the router and client but the WAN IP address has not changed. What am I missing? Thanks.

On the client device with all traffic going through VPN tunnel the WAN IP will change to the VPN server WAN IP. Similar to using commercial VPN providers, your router's physical WAN IP doesn't change, but if you look for "What's my ISP" on a client you'll see your own ISP (VPN disabled) or the commercial VPN server name as ISP (VPN enabled). Your router can't change the physical WAN IP - if it happens you'll get disconnected from your ISP.
