I have a RT-AC86U and want to keep it locked in a wall mounted server cabinet. So, looking to disable its wireless functionality, and get a cheap wireless access point which could be placed on top of the cabinet.
Notes:
I had seen this AP which seems more than good enough:
https://www.scan.co.uk/products/tp-...and-300plus867mbps-gbe-mu-mimo-80211b-g-n-poe
But then noticed this router:
https://www.scan.co.uk/products/tp-...4plus5ghz-300plus867mbps-fast-ethernet-80211a
There is roughly a £12 difference between the two, and the only thing I think I would lose out on by going for the cheaper one (the router) is the option to power it by PoE.
Would just like to confirm that my thinking/understanding is sound before I make the purchase, so any comments would be appreciated
Notes:
- Everything important on my network is wired and the switches are inside the cabinet
- I have a PoE switch as well, so could power an AP using that or mains socket
- Prefer to have both 2.4GHz and 5GHz
