I saw this setting under Professional but can't get any higher than 40 mW.
Are there fw that allow higher settings and what is a safe maximum?

Is this setting usefull at all?

The current firmware standard is 80 mw. There was one older version that was 40 mw but it did not work very well. You should download and update your firmware. All version of the firmware required that when changing the mw setting that you hit apply three time in a row before it takes effect. Strange I know!

I got the router in february, it came with fw 3.0.0.90. Should I go to 108 or 112? Do I need to save any settings before updating?

I would personally go to .108, but .112 seems to be working for people as well. I had .108 up for more than 2 months, so it was very stable for me. And .112 didn't offer me anything new that I needed.

And don't save your settings, you'll want to re-enter them manually after upgrading and clearing the nvram. So just be ready to manually re-enter them.

Will I have to clear the nvram manually? Or is it cleared automatically after upgrading?

Hi dikkiedirk! .108 seems like the most stable and reliable build. Asus will soon be coming out with a major update that I have tried and it works very well. Right now the beta is version is .155. Asus has been saying that they will release this new verion to the public any day now.

You'll have to clear the nvram manually by telneting into your router ("putty" is a good free telnet/ssh client for Windows) as "admin". Telnet has to be enabled in the router for this, using the "System" tab from "Administration":

mtd-erase -d nvram
reboot

and this clears the nvram. Then you can re-enter your settings.
