I have a Netgear 834GT with DGTeam firmware that I'd like to try as a wireless repeater.
I have found the WDS options which allows me to select it to operate as a repeater but I'm not sure what else I need to do.
I have turned off the firewall (on the repeater, not the AP).
I have entered the AP's LAN side MAC address in the repeater parameter.
I have turned off DHCP on the repeater
What do I need to do with the IP settings?
Do I give it a static IP in the same range as the home network (my DHCP on the AP assigns 30-50) leaving anything else available for static use.
What do I need to do with the wireless settings on the repeater?
Do I turn off encryption or set it identical to the AP
Do I use a different SSID or set it identical to the AP
Is it true that WPA doesn't work in this configuration and that I'll have to use WEP?
Is it true that the AP has to be WDS compliant?
What I'm expecting to see is a single wireless network, with the user being unaware that there are two points of connection and the clients automatically picking the best one. Is this correct?
Cheers,
Nigel
