Dell E6220 Laptop, Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, Netgear WNDR4500v2

The router has a 2.4GHz b/g/n wireless network setup with Channel set to "Auto"
and Mode set to "Up to 217 Mbps" which will generally supply an internet speed
around 45Mbps. Also a 5GHz a/n wireless network with Channel set to "36" and
Mode set to "Up to 450 Mbps" which will generally supply an internet speed
around 110Mbps.

My internet speed will often be only 45Mbps from the router with a wireless
only connection. If I install an Ethernet cable from the router to the laptop
at the same time the speed goes up to 110Mbps. Then if I turn off the wireless
switch on the laptop the speed remains at 110Mbps. Remove the cable, turn the
wireless switch back on, wait for a connection and the speed remains at 110Mbps.

Next time I use this laptop I may or may not have to repeat this sequence to
get 110Mbps.

It's not practical for me to keep the router and laptop hardwired.

Is there something I can set to automatically get the faster speed.
