New Around Here
Introduced with iOS 15 late last year, Apple Mail Privacy Protection loads images in emails without sharing your personal information (IP address, etc.). I've had it enabled on my devices from day 1. But starting a few weeks ago, I'd get a "Your network settings prevent content from loading privately" message at the top of my email messages, and had to click a button to load images.
Some Google searching led to discussions about DNS configuration issues ("it's always DNS"), but nothing that seemed relevant to my setup. Then it dawned on me: I use OpenDNS with custom content filtering. I checked the config, and I was blocking "proxies/anonymizers". On the theory that the servers Apple uses for this privacy protection had made their way onto that list, I disabled that blocking. Problem solved.
Posting here in case it saves someone else a few hours of their life.
