    Hi Thiggins: Actually DSM 3.2 has a feature called mkv remuxing that can stream mkv on PS3 and Sony TV on-the-fly. The difference to real transcoding is this conversion doesn't convert codecs used in original mkv, and require much less computing power.

    Synology DS409 vs QNAP TS409

    Just a notice on the CPU/platform of two products. DS409 use the newer chipset Marvell/6281 1.2GHz/256MB RAM while TS409 used older Marvel/5281 500MHz/128MB RAM. The emule and nzb download clients are integrated within Synology DS409. You cannot upgrade the RAM in both models.

    Frequentflyer: Have you tried to use Synology Assitant to map drive ? or you just using "\\DiskStation\share" in the Windows Explorer ?

    Hi gdelano: I am not sure what you mean of "poorly executed" (any bugs or malfunctions you encountered?) . All these features are working well in all Synology series NAS. The difference is just the performace experienced by users.

    What's your firmware version ? You can enable/disable NFS function and set the NFS privilege in the administrator UI in recent stable firmware (728).
