    Thanks, this answers my question! I was under the impression that the limitations on power levels with newer versions of the firmware were implemented in the driver itself, and that updating to a newer driver/SDK meant gimping your power level regardless of what the UI might say.

    Well, no. It would have to clog with so much dust that the temperatures with cooling were greater than the temperatures originally were without. It's highly unlikely.

You got hit by an exploit in the various file sharing services in your firmware revision, but the CPU in that router is MIPS and therefore not capable of executing the final stage of the payload.     I used to get this crap all the time on my RT-AC66U, usually accompanied by horrendous network slowdown only resolved by restart_wireless or a reboot, before I replaced the power supply. It stopped completely after that.

    I don't have time to read all 100+ posts in the thread currently, but has anything been said about why the packed 378.56 beta 1 firmware is about 8 megs smaller than 378.55 for RT-AC66U? I don't see this kind of reduction in size for any of the images for other routers, so I fear that the copy...
