SNMP shows incorrect SPIKED traffic on RT-N66U Merlin

Sorry to leave you hanging on how to do this... You may need to make available on your graphing software the MIB for this device. Seems there may be something usable at https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/blob/master/release/src/router/net-snmp-5.7.2/agent/mibgroup/asus-mib/RT-N66U-MIB.txt...

SNMP shows incorrect SPIKED traffic on RT-N66U Merlin

This looks like the value you are getting went from a counter on the ethernet interface to a value. You'll probably need to examine the MIB or walk the device to figure out what has changed.

    Whole House VPN setup

I am certain this could be done on something like OpenWRT, but I am not convinced that running OpenVPN on your router will produce satisfactory results. Nevertheless, airvpn.org has plenty of info on doing just that. My setup uses two virtual machines on an I7 box that does a whole bunch of...

Set VPN and P2P with cascading router

This really depends upon the capabilities of both routers. If you can't add networks to the Cisco, and you can't control firewall rules on the LAN ports of your old router or turn off NAT on the WAN port, or set rules about connection types, then it may not work. Some people have had luck...

Do Routers Get Slower As They Age?

This is true of electrolytics and especially true considering many electrolytic caps have very poor dielectric fluids. For the last decade motherboards have been plagued with crummy caps. I had to replace the caps on my Linksys RV-042 router due to the caps being of very poor quality. They...

    Ubiquiti updates

Networking professionals, people who can roll their own that need better performance than a consumer router can produce? I don't necessarily disagree with your premise, but I believe that not only has the hardware evolved since the original article (at least the packaging is different), but...

    info needed please

What you might try doing is logging into the Tomato routers via ssh and running arp -a That will show you the arp table for the address and MAC pairings that it knows. With that, you can start to build a network map. It won't identify particular ports, but it may provide some useful...

    Ubiquiti updates

They are not intended to be a drop in replacement for a WRT54G and I am sure UBNT would be loathe to have that consumer market. These are price sensitive support intensive people who at the drop of a hat will take to Amazon to vent their frustration over lack of support because they can't...

Router that can monitor bandwidth Per IP and/or MAC

I would opt for a managed switch. You can produce bandwidth graphs per interface with something such as Cacti. There are some inexpensive TP-Link managed switches that have SNMP. Besides the initial benefit of ease of graphing, some also support QoS and most have VLAN tagging. Another...

    EdgeRouter POE Configuration.

The 1.2.0 firmware web UI is workable. From a web design angle, it's nifty. From a set up my router stand point, it's not going to allow you to do all the serious magic this router is capable of performing. It is a good place to start and learn it, but it is still daunting if you are not...

    bandwidth, traffic monitoring?

If the box supported SNMP, I'd recommend looking into something like Cacti. But since the specs for this device don't mention it, I don't think that is an option.

Can you buy decent consumer routers without Wifi?

If it is possible, I haven't found them. Like you, all my gear is in the basement on a backboard and having the wireless access point in on one corner of the basement is an awful location. 5 GHz is worthless there, and 2.4 GHz isn't much better so I've opted for a pair of Apple Airports on...

Should devices with static IPs be entered into Reserved Address list?

It is mostly a matter of personal preference and how you design your network. I define a static IP on any device or machine that has network infrastructure. I have two machines that have caching DNS and other services important to how the network operates, so I need them to always be where I...

    TP-LINK TL-ER5120 Multiwan Router (350MB throughput for $250) - Anyone use this?

Sorry this is late and it sort of bumps a now inactive thread, but I'm surprised that all of these advanced/SOHO routers (and not just TP-Link) that offer QOS, multi-wan, etc continue not to include SNMP as a feature set. This is especially true when they offer something resembling 802.1q...

    RV042 vs DD-WRT

Since I made that reply, I decided that maybe I needed to look over my OpenWRT install and see really what is happening. I couldn't get a WAN IP address, and after a bit of work and looking over forums, this is an issue between the dhcpd on the OpenWRT box and my ISP. I can take it elsewhere...
