Hi,

I have two wireless access points, one is my router and the other is a linksys router I use as a switch and access point (that is, nothing connected to the WAN port). Obviously I have two SSIDs corresponding to each wireless, say SSID1 on my router and SSID2 on my linksys switch.

Some iphone applications don't work when I'm on SSID1 (on router) while they work when the iPhone is on SSID2 (on switch)!!!

Any idea why ?

Example of applications are RManager (a kind of file browser based on SMB protocol) and Remote (the iPhone app letting read itunes remotely).

How can I test to localize the problem ?

thanks

then plug something into the same port on the router and see if it can access what you want as if you have correctly set the second router to wan bypass mode as explained in the link there will be and cant be any effect caused by the secondary router

if as you say they are not working on ssid1 on the main router then it has nothing to do with the second router in wan bypass mode and you need to disconnect it and focus on the main router

i assume the main ssid is not in guest wifi or has any features like mac filtering etc or firwall enable apart from the default setting

How can I test to localize the problem ?
perhaps a little more info would help as i seem tobe doing all the talking and my crystal ball dont work so well some times

First, thank you very much to try to understand the problem.

Yes, I agree 100% with you that the problem is in the main router as the second router is configured to work like a switch (cf. link you provided). If I said when the iPhone is on the second router (switch)'s SSID, everything works, that was just to prove that the problem is on the main router as you said.
I did not do any MAC filtering nor touch any firewall. BTW, I though a router's firewall checks only connections with outside world, not in the LAN!

Please take a look at the file I attached which explains in detail my problem. If you want more info, please ask

thanks

EDIT: In addition to iPhone, I have the same problem with whatever PC. If I connect the PC's WiFi to SSID of my main router, it can't see any folder shared in my network. When I connect it to the SSID of my second router (which is now a switch and WiFi Access Point), it can see all the folder I shared. As if my router for unknown reason doesn't let SMB (Samba) messages pass through its ports!
