    Cisco reshuffles its wireless deck

If they are all the same hardware I wonder if the firmware is interchangable. Also will the new E series add functionality not in the WRT series?

    Cisco reshuffles its wireless deck

Some of us like the ability to upgrade and/or add reflectors to existing antenna. The reason I want external antennas is so I can replace them with something better. The internal antennas are what, 1/8th wavelength antennas? I know then don't put 40.5mm antennas in there (1/2 wavelength)...

What is the best available N Wireless Router for 5300 AGN?

How many other networks can you see on your computers? The reason I ask is I know people love to bash 5GHz as not as good to use but in an apt situation it may be possible to have so many other networks around at 2.4GHz and none at 5GHz that its best to use the less crowded spectrum. I...

    DIR-655 A4 review, but still no DIR-855 A2 review?

While I agree the 855 A2 isn't worth reviewing I strongly disagree with your reasoning. With 802.11n being in draft still the radio being difference could have a large impact. I just think the A2 isn't worth reviewing as there were some completely new dual band routers announced at CES which...

Replacment Antenna for Dir-825 Dual Band

One attenna means one data stream so it will hurt performance in a 802.11n enviroment. N doesn't really use antenna diversity like a/b/g as it actually uses all the antennas at one time. So if you want full N speed with directional antennas you need to have them aimed at the same place.

    SmallNetBuilder's CES 2009 Wrap Up

If the WRT400N uses the newer higher end atheros chipset while the WRT320N uses the low end (for being simultanious dual band) of the new Broadcom chipsets then how is the 610 not being replaced? The BCM4717 chipset's processor runs at the same speed as the one in the 610 (BCM4705) so if the...

    SmallNetBuilder's CES 2009 Wrap Up

chipsets of the dualband routers Know what chipsets the new routers will use? Say the Atheros AR9002AP or the Broadcom BCM4718 that were both announced back in June last year? http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/06-03-2008/0004824998&EDATE...

D-Link DIR-825 Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router: Second Time's the Charm?

The only differnce between the A2 version of the 855 and the 825 is the 855 has three antennas vs 2 so can correctly use 3x3 radio mode, right? So since the 825 has the plugs internal for the missing antenna you could plug one 5GHz antenna into one and a 2.4GHz antenna into the other and get...

Atheros' Align: Does Single Stream 802.11n Really Help?

I think they should keep with only allowing 1x1 for mobile devices and maybe even have a max amount of power the chipset could use to get certified. I'm not so sure if the second part is really fesable but basically 1x1 should be used in low power devices like cell phones to end the need for...

D-Link DIR-825 Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router: Second Time's the Charm?

D-Link DIR-825 Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router: Second Time's the Charm?

Thanks for the explination, should have figured that one out... So no chance to test with "normal" higher gain omnidirectional antenna like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833980001 (by normal I mean not directional, easy to install, no DIY or hacking an antenna...

D-Link DIR-825 Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router: Second Time's the Charm?

At the same time Atheros anounced their new chipset Broadcom anounced a new one too but I don't see any devices using either. History also tells us it takes much longer for new chipsets to appear in products based on what I've seen in the past :( I do wish they wouldn't wait so long. BTW...

D-Link DIR-825 Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router: Second Time's the Charm?

Where do you see release notes saying that? All I see is "Added SharePort" to the 1.01 build from 9/22/2008 btw what is HT/40? Any comments on my initial post? Thanks

D-Link DIR-825 Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router: Second Time's the Charm?

Thanks for the review, must have taken a long time to do all that. I do have a few small issues though: 1) I thought you said the second hw revision of the 855 has the AR9100 wireless chipset. Is that not right? This might mean the 2nd hw revision also has the newer chipset for the switch...

I'm going to upgrade my wireless router which one should I buy?

Keep in mind to look at the firmware the review was made with and what changes have been done to the firmware since. For example the Linksys 610 router just had a new firmware which claims: Last Released Date: 08 / 27 / 08 Firmware version: v1.00.00.18 - Updated wireless drivers to...
