    Bridge security

Hi All, I was hoping for some help with bridge mode. I have it working between two 68u's but the only way I can do it is to have the bridged channel unencrypted. Any way to bridge but with an encrypted connection? Thanks! Z

    802.11ac stable router rec needed

How about asus rt-68u AC vs netgear nighthawk r7000 vs tp link archer c7 ac 1750. Those seem to be the ones I see listed here the most. I read that reviews on them but they all are a little bit older and not on recent firmware. Thanks for the input. -z

    802.11ac stable router rec needed

sorry, by stability I meant a router that doesn't disconnect, reset, or require resets. Seems like the best price/performance/feature balance is in the 802.11 ac 1900 and 1750 routers. Anyone feel differently? thanks, z

    802.11ac stable router rec needed

Hi All, Time for me to buy a router. I'm looking for the most stable router known to man that is relatively easy to use (no ubiquiti). I don't need anything super fancy in term of VPN or fileserving but I wouldn't complain if the router had those features. I've been pouring over reviews but...

    stupid proof router

Hi all, my brother in law asked for a router for christmas. I end up doing the family's tech support so I was looking for something that is totally stupid proof that he can set up himself. I don't really care about speed, 802.11g is fine, < 50 dollars. Who is up to the challenge? thanks, Z

Review Request, Amahi and Marvell Plug computer

Hey Tim, I had stumbled upon that earlier today. Thanks for the review. When did you start smallcloudbuilder? Great website, killed an hour of my day quite happily reading reviews that finally addressed the questions I had about those various things. You would be amazed at some of the utter...

Review Request, Amahi and Marvell Plug computer

Greyhole sounds very interesting to me too. I like the idea of being able grow or shrink my drive pool easily and not having to have all the same size drives. Raid has always seemed too much of a headache to me since one has to sit down and really plan out their array and then it is pretty...

Review Request, Amahi and Marvell Plug computer

Hey Tim, I really enjoy your site. Built a DIY ubuntu server/nas with webmin a while back after reading your articles. The tinkering itch has come over me again and in my search I ran across two things that I thought might be of interest to your readers. http://www.amahi.org/ application...

    Squeezebox

Hey everyone. I was looking at getting a squeezebox but I have one question I can't find the answer to. Will the squeezebox allow me to play any audio I feed into it? I.E. Can I be using my computer to watch a movie and have it play that audio feed outside? Thanks, Z

Diary Of My Switch To Internet TV

I see two big complications to this whole TV/Movies via the computer. 1) Sound, It is a complete an utter pain if you want to do surround sound and HiDef. The new ATI cards can pass through the sound to your reciever and let it decode the sound. Anyways, so far I've just said heck with...

Diary Of My Switch To Internet TV

My wife and I have been doing the internet TV thing for about a year now. I've looked at the packaged soluations like boxee, the various media boxes and they all come up lacking as far as I am concerned so right now we just use our computer hooked up to a HDTV with a NAS to store ISOs...

Intel Atom vs. VIA C7: Which Makes a Faster, Cheaper NAS?

yeahgreat article, thanks. I was hoping the Atom was going to do a little better. I had been thinking about upgrading my couple year old via c7 1ghz machine to an atom machine but looks like there isn't sufficient performance gain to do so. A great part 2 would be to see what kind of...

Mulling over options for Low-Power DIY NAS

the 2 tb drives are exactly why i think going raid 1 is a better idea. Look how fast capacities are increasing. In a year you are going to look at your 3tb raid 5 array or 2tb raid 6 array and think, well crap. Wish it wasn't so expensive to upgrade. Why not just buy one 2 tb hard drive and...

Mulling over options for Low-Power DIY NAS

Listen to bliko :) , I personally think raid is nice to have around but most of the time not worth the money. Invest in a good back up solution. I'm not sure why you want raid 6 as 2 drives failing in a small raid array has a hugely small chance of happening. You are much more likely to have...
