Blocking the Google signin popup?

noah way

Regular Contributor
Is there a Diversion script that will block the annoying google signin popup?

Not a problem on the PC, but annoying as hell on IOS.

I have tried everything I can think of to stop the Google signin popup that now seems to appear on so many websites. I've logged in to google and checked all my setting (which were set for max privacy). I've tried access from different locations with VPN and I’ve tried different browsers (with the odd SnowHaze browser) being the only one that blocks this.

It appears that google is tracking everyone all the time whether you are logged in or not.

Duckduckgo browser doesn’t block this.
I use Adguard’s safari extension. Should be under “Annoyance” filter or just use the DNS filter extension for Safari.

So you leave yourself open to vulnerabilities .:rolleyes:
That depends on how much you trust Apple. New IOS versions enhance Apple's monitoring and tracking capability. You think all those updates are for your benefit? LOL

I don’t do anything that requires security on mobile platforms. That's all done on a fortified PC harware and software firewalls, running through rotating VPN servers.

If you don’t trust Apple, why do you use an iPhone?

Older unpatched versions of iOS (and many other operating systems) have known security issues that are exploited in the wild. Not running the latest version of iOS enables “everyone” (not just Apple) to snoop on you.

Becuase Android is more secure? LOL They all suck, they are all compromised, they all spy on everyone all the time. Which is why I don’t use my phone for anything that requires security, as I said above.

Do you have any evidence that iOS is spying on you “all the time” … soon most of their services will be E2EE as far as I’m aware.

An investigation of tracking on IOS: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/blog/how-iphone-apps-track-you/

“Overall, our observations suggest that, while Apple’s changes make tracking individual users more difficult, they motivate a counter-movement, and reinforce existing market power of gatekeeper companies with access to large troves of first-party data,” the researchers wrote. “Making the privacy properties of apps transparent through large-scale analysis remains a difficult target for independent researchers, and a key obstacle to meaningful, accountable and verifiable privacy protections.”

That’s interesting, I’ll give it a read.

Google, Apple, Meta ...... no matter what you do they'll always find a way to deliver the ads, at least. Be like my friend who uses Nokia 3310, but has an iPad Pro without updating anything. I was shocked to see the amount of crash logs :eek:

This doesn't work any more, if it ever did. The setting on the howtogeek site references "allow Google to display a sign in prompt where it's supported."
The setting in google accounts now reads "Allow Google to display a sign in prompt ON ANDROID."
The setting was already off for me. I don't have Android. I get the popup a lot.
I would prefer a hardware / router level blocking as I have multiple devices (tablets, phones, laptops, desktops) and can't or won't change the browser on each. Plus would just prefer this junk be blocked!

Perhaps something below can be incorporated into Diversion?

Code:
[HEADING=2]Google login dialogs on various pages[/HEADING]
||accounts.google.com/gsi/*$xhr,script,3p<br>
Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/comments/iu7sn0/anyway_to_block_certain_sites_from_trying_to_use/g5jgpft/ rel="nofollow">https://www.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/comments/iu7sn0/anyway_to_block_certain_sites_from_trying_to_use/g5jgpft/

You can also turn it off in Google Account settings -> security -> sign in with google -> turn off sign in prompts

https://www.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/comments/rnt020/blocking_sign_in_to_website_with_google_popups/hpukths/ rel="nofollow">https://www.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/comments/rnt020/blocking_sign_in_to_website_with_google_popups/hpukths/

You can try this filter to block the popup, but hopefully don't break the 'sign-in with google' feature:

||accounts.google.com/gsi/iframe/select?client_id=*.apps.googleusercontent.com<br>
Source https://www.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/comments/1i3xopo/signin_with_google_popup_block/" rel="nofollow">https://www.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/comments/1i3xopo/signin_with_google_popup_block/

FYI As for Apple spying, there has been a strong culture of privacy there, but it is waning as the older Steve Jobs era workers are replaced. I was shocked after messaging a friend about obtaining an online degree from a degree mill, he received a message or email later that day soliciting graduate degrees in Africa. Imessage was the only place we discussed this... Apple is still better than Android/Google but they are both bad.

This is an old thread...

That being said - good to have an authenticator app handy - google has their app, and Microsoft has done good things about getting rid of passwords all-together...

Key thing here though - if you're getting hit with a google/microsoft verification - it's likely not a match with what they have, so the challenge...
