Hi, I've currently had my RT-N66u for about a month and a half now with no issues. I was looking at settings tonight when I checked my log and found this:

Is this normal? That often? That is my laptop which is running Windows 7 Professional 64bit with an Killer Wireless-N 1103 card. My router has Asus 3.0.0.4.354 firmware on it.

I've done some searching on these but found little to no info on them. Is there a way to read them to see what's causing this?

If I don't recall wrong it's a matter of your PC telling the DHCP server that it is still alive, after half the lease time (looks like about 5 minutes between the entries which would mean the router is set to give a lease of 10 minutes for DHCP).

No idea either what is causing that behavior - but I had the same problem until I entered a fixed IP into the TCP/IPv4 settings of the one desktop PC that was affected...

Didn't get a sufficient answer up to now what is triggering those frequent queries that are put in spite of the fact that the lease time isn't over yet...

Ciao

What do you guys recommend I do? I tried to read the packets in Wireshark with no luck. All my settings are default settings on the router so I don't know why the lease would be 10 minutes? Should I assign an IP to my laptop?

I got this message to. I am using 3.0.0.4.270.26 Merlin and it started for me a month ago also. It is on all of my devices not just one.

A quick googling ("windows 7 dhcp spam" gave me http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/874322-dhcpinform-and-dhcpack-spam/) indicates that it might be the Windows 7 computer using "proxy auto configuration". Try turning it of (not sure where it is done).

Might be but isn't... In my settings proxy auto configuration is unchecked (Local Network - LAN - Automatic Configuration), and I don't use a proxy.

The only way I can get rid of this behavior is entering a static IP in the LAN IP settings of the PC...

Looks like I might of figured out the problem.

It looks like my GPS program was checking for updates every so often which was sending those out. So I uninstalled that. Then I noticed when my Avast checks for updates it also sends those out so what I did was I turned off the Software Updater. Then I went into Avast's settings, clicked Updates and scrolled down to the proxy settings which had "Auto Detect (Use IE Settings)" checked. I simply changed it to "Direct Connection (no proxy" and haven't been getting as many at all. In fact I went 12 hours without this PC sending one out.

I'd look into programs that like to check for updates and check proxy settings for those programs as well.

The flooding stopped when I turned of DHCP and configure the IP adress manual on Windows 7.
