Craig, thanks for this.
I've been following the personal alternatives to cloud storage for a while and none of the available products have actually appealed to me, though I have several of them. What I've ended up using is a combination of OwnCloud and BTSync - OwnCloud to run a user-friendly front-end, and BTSync to do the remote dispersal of data. Since BTSync is open-source-ish, it's been ported to quite a number of platforms, including Pogoplugs, where it syncs faster and more reliably (in my experience) than the native Pogo sync.
It's also dead-easy to setup. Have you given it a shot?
