Both are really good 2 bay NAS's with the same amount of RAM, the main difference is in the CPU

They both use a different type of CPU (Synology 1.06Ghz, QNAP 1.6Ghz)

The Synology CPU is a better architecture, but the Qnap is clocked higher

Both will probably have very similar performance

Although not announced, Synology may be about to bring out a DS211+, so I would expect a faster clocked CPU, and this may give it a slight edge on speed

But whether you go for a DS210+, DS211+ or TS210p+, you will have a great 2 bay NAS

You can not state the cpu clock speed as an advantage when comparing two so different architechtures.

- The Synology cpu is faster, and the nas performance will be better
- The synology will be significantly faster with encrypted folders
- Qnap will have a lot better backup performance to ntfs filesystems
