I have a simple two computer set up at the moment, with some folders share between then. I have an intermittent problem, which confuses me as the error sounds somewhat fundamental. I've changed the network drive letter to ensure its not conflicting with anything, changed turned off power management for all the relevant network adapters and ensured neither computer is going into idle. Any ideas on what I can try? Any help is much appreciated.

What version of Windows on each end?
Are you sharing via homegroups or regular windows file sharing with usernames?
If you run this command from the CMD prompt:
net use * /delete /y
then reboot
then attempt to reconnect to the mapped drive
does it work?

Following this error, it will reconnect in about 30-60 seconds, so no need for that reboot.

Sharing is via file sharing only, no homegroup as I understand homegroup was basically terrible.

Windows 8.1 each end
