My current setup is as follows:

AC87U on 380.58 as my main router w/ DHCP wired/wireless clients
AC68U on 378.53 connected to AC87U in 5Ghz repeater mode w/ DHCP wired/wireless clients

I found this to be a working combination of router/firmware to allow me to use the AC87U as my main router and AC68U as my repeater. The majority of clients use DHCP. About 50% of the clients connect directly to the AC87U (wired & wireless) and the rest to the AC68U (wired and wireless).

When I tried the following combinations of routers/firmwares, this is what I got:

Something interesting to note is that if I connect another AC68U(380.62_1) thru the AC68U repeater (380.62_1) in repeater mode in combo #2, DHCP works fine thru the end point AC68U repeater...but again not on the middle AC68U repeater.

I'd really like to keep all routers up to date on the latest Merlin versions if at all possible. My understanding is that after 380.58, the Quantenna firmware broke on the AC87U according to this: http://www.snbforums.com/threads/re...2_1-is-now-available.34844/page-5#post-283152 Not sure if it's the entire firmware, or perhaps just drivers. If just drivers, is it just a matter of copying the older AC87U drivers from 380.58 to 380.62_1?

As far as the AC68U is concerned, anyone else using it in repeater mode (on 380.62_1 firmware) with perhaps an RT-AC3100 or AC88U and DHCP works fine? I'm not sure if it's an issue with the 380.62_1 firmware itself or if it's just being picky and doesn't play well with the AC87U in repeater mode with DHCP.

Thanks.
