Who is trying to connect to my VPN?

I have an RT-N66U router with VPN enabled. I regularly (about once a day) see the following in the log:

Oct 3 10:51:46 pptpd[8758]: CTRL: EOF or bad error reading ctrl packet length.
Oct 3 10:51:46 pptpd[8758]: CTRL: couldn't read packet header (exit)
Oct 3 10:51:46 pptpd[8758]: CTRL: CTRL read failed

I have read similar posts about this issue. E.g.

In the logs above, there is also an IP address. E.g. probably someone is trying to log in or doing a portscan etc. But I'm not seeing that. Only the above three CTRL lines.

So are these also 'just' someone portscanning or trying to log in to my VPN?
