Very Small, Very Simple NAS or Built In Router USB

Hi Everyone- Ok, wanted to report back. I setup 20 laptops connected to my Lenovo x201 i7 Win 7 machine. Worked no problem. Can't even notice the performance hit whatsoever. As soon as I tried to connect #21- Would not let me. Thank you for your help with this! Very helpful to me.

Very Small, Very Simple NAS or Built In Router USB

Thanks. Good to know. I did some research last night and from what it looks like, Microsoft upped the shared folder maximum connections from 10 to 20. It was installed within a service update at some point during Windows 7. So, I'm going to test this out tomorrow (Monday) and I'll report back...

Very Small, Very Simple NAS or Built In Router USB

That's an idea. Or even a RaspberryPi. Or if I end up in this direction, I could just go with a Synology single bay DiskStation (https://www.synology.com/en-us/products/DS115j). I was just trying to avoid a big 3.5" disk solution. I know I have an edge case, but it is what it is. This is why I...

Very Small, Very Simple NAS or Built In Router USB

Yes, thank you for mentioning it. All the documentation I could find said that the maximum connections is 10. I've thought about bringing a small build PC with me, but that just feels really complicated and again, I hit the 10 limit. Does Win10 Pro lift the 10 limit? Thanks!!

Very Small, Very Simple NAS or Built In Router USB

Hello- Thank you in advance for your help. Anyone recommend a very simple NAS solution. It would be awesome if I could just use a memory stick. Here's the need: - 20 clients saving very very small text files (as in 25KB) 1 time an hour- Very light workload - Transportable- Size matters- It...

Recommendation For Strange Set of Needs?

Ok... thanks for the help. Think I'm going to go with the Netgear R6120. It's small enough where I can handle the antennas and it looks like it will handle 20 or so text clients just fine. Thanks.

Recommendation For Strange Set of Needs?

I just thought of something. Would it help these machines if I added a USB wireless card? They have USB 2 on them. Just an idea. Might be a pain to manage all the usb cards too. Thx.

Ya.. ok... Thanks. You're probably right about the removable antennas. That's not a problem at all. Thanks!

Recommendation For Strange Set of Needs?

Thanks for the help. The laptops only support 2.4Ghz N. In terms of portability, right now I have a Linksys E3500 which fits in the crate ok (its a little large). Its working ok, but I have noticed signal weakness at the corner of the room. Antennas are not doable because they'll probably break...

Adice? Super Range Travel or Small Wireless Router?

OMG!!! Sleep deprivation! Wow! I have absolutely no idea why I wrote I need 10 routers and AC supplies. That is so totally not the case. I need 1 router/ap where 12 laptops can connect wirelessly to share some basic text files back and forth. They can't be connected via cables. But I...

Adice? Super Range Travel or Small Wireless Router?

Hello- Thanks for the quick reply and this isn't a bad idea. I should have been more clear... all the equipment is in the same room... very very very large ballrooms inside of hotels. I need the signal strength because its a very large ballroom and I'm fighting a lot of other wireless noise. Thx!
