XT8 troubleshooting log, cfg_server possibly an issue

In the nearly-a-year since my last post here, I've upgraded a lot of my setup; I now have an AXE16000 as the main router, and have relegated two XT8s to satellite duty. It's been stable.

    Success: Migrating from 3 x XT8 to GT-AXE16000 + 2 x XT8

This is the one I used... I've never used an SFP+ module before so I have no basis for comparison, but it seems fine. :)

    Success: Migrating from 3 x XT8 to GT-AXE16000 + 2 x XT8

A little update: I did the 3Gb fibre upgrade, and bought some gear... And now my network topology looks like this: I was only getting ~1100Mbps from PCs that had a clean 2.5G wired connection, so I tried experimenting with some router settings, thinking maybe the AXE16000 doesn't have enough...

    Success: Migrating from 3 x XT8 to GT-AXE16000 + 2 x XT8

I previously had 3 x XT8's in wired gigabit backhaul (see my other thread for a tale of woe, although they've been quite stable for months) I recently bought a GT-AXE16000 (for CAD$500!) from ebay. I chose the AXE16000 because I wanted something with 2 10G ports, so I can upgrade my WAN to...

XT8 troubleshooting log, cfg_server possibly an issue

Still on 23285 with wired backhaul, uptime 73 days, no noticeable UI slowdowns or cfg_server shenanigans. I'm calling this one good.

XT8 troubleshooting log, cfg_server possibly an issue

I didn't restart or kill anything since my last post, and it seems to have recovered itself. Uptime 18 days. WELP^2. I would guess cfg_server got restarted by something, but its proc/*/status indicates the current instance was once large: admin@router:/tmp# grep VmPeak /proc/$(pidof...

    WELP 23285 just started misbehaving again... 500+ threads, 800 connections in CLOSE_WAIT, cfg_server using lots of RAM admin@router:/tmp/home/root# ps wT |grep cfg |wc -l 510 admin@router:/tmp/home/root# netstat -tnap |grep cfg |wc -l 806 admin@router:/tmp/home/root# netstat -tnap |grep cfg...

XT8 troubleshooting log, cfg_server possibly an issue

I've been on 3.0.0.4.388_23012-g1166fba for a month or so and it's been good, 🤞... Recent Asus beta firmware release notes mentioned a "cfg server vulnerability" which probably refers to https://talosintelligence.com/vulnerability_reports/TALOS-2022-1592. I'm pretty confident my problem wasn't...

Parental Controls and time scheduling causing crashes?

Hey, this is interesting; I'm using parental controls with time scheduling on my setup too... It's been stable for a few weeks since I reset everything though. If you want something to try, have a look at my thread, and see if you think your experience might have similar causes...

Just under three days of uptime, cfg_server is behaving itself.

XT8 troubleshooting log, cfg_server possibly an issue

Yesterday I hard-reset all three units, still running 3.0.0.4.388_22068. A couple differences from last time: * I set up static DHCP reservations for the satellites' 5GHz-2 radios, on .2 and .3 * I'm back to wired backhaul At the moment (21 hours of uptime) cfg_server is behaving properly...

    22068 didn't help, I'll do a hard reset soon. :/

XT8 troubleshooting log, cfg_server possibly an issue

22068 was released in the past couple days, I'll give it a try edit: so far so good, 3 hours later, cfg_server behaving well. I didn't do a factory reset, I just flashed all three units. I'll update here if anything interesting happens.

    welp, cfg_server is back to misbehaving again: admin@router:/tmp/home/root# netstat -tnap |grep cfg_server |wc -l 1949 admin@router:/tmp/home/root# ps T |grep cfg_server |wc -l 1012
