Testing Cat6 in the new home network

Thanks - I think RevConnect is what I had ordered when I bought the cable. Seemed like a good investment for the simplification.

Testing Cat6 in the new home network

Thanks. Any idea what it tends to run per visit for 30 cables tested? My remodel is in phases, so I'd be having someone out multiple times. Also, what testing is it that they usually perform to confirm bandwidth?

Testing Cat6 in the new home network

Thanks - I will have a look at it. I didn't see this post earlier.

Testing Cat6 in the new home network

Thanks for the recommendations there. I wasn't sure if there were tests commonly performed, such as insulation testing/meggering which can be done with electrical conductors, which would not require termination. Perhaps someone will know about some specific test equipment, or if it can be rented.

Testing Cat6 in the new home network

Thanks. I'm not looking for a simple cable continuity tester that verifies the jack wiring, rather something that tests the condition of the cat6, itself, to verify any installation/nail/manufacturing/bandwidth issues. I see some references to these types of testers being about $1000 10-12 years...

Testing Cat6 in the new home network

I will be pulling Cat6 (Belden 2412) throughout my home in the coming month or so. Can anyone provide me some guidance (or point to references) that outline how it should be tested to identify any performance or install issues before walls are closed up? If there is any 'affordable' test...

Ubiquiti and Zyxel Experiences - Switching, Security, Customer Service

That is why I am selecting a switch that doesn't make much noise

Ubiquiti and Zyxel Experiences - Switching, Security, Customer Service

No doubt, data centers are super loud an give me a headache. In this case, it's just for home network and next to a theater, so needs to be super quiet... unfortunately, that may drive me to a solution that is less than ideal technically, but being real about it.... for a home network, probably...

Ubiquiti and Zyxel Experiences - Switching, Security, Customer Service

Can anyone with experience with Ubiquity and/or Zyxel speak to how well they perform for switching, security, and customer service? Comparisons are even better. I am need of a quiet gigabit switch with PoE, and it seems that my choices for a single device come down to either Ubiquity...

Need some recommendations for 2 switches

Ok, thanks thiggins, I'll dig in! Can anyone confirm if the suggested approach is a good way to go about this? I don't know what I don't know. Summary: Create separate network at subnet layer on router, tag traffic from networks (and wifi SSIDs) with vlans, use the router firewall to control...

Need some recommendations for 2 switches

I was able to setup the Peplink 20x router with an additional subnet network, and tagged it with VLAN ID 111, then on the Ruckus AP, set the corresponding VLAN ID for the IoT SSID. I then added a firewall rule to the 20x to deny any traffic from the IoT subnet (VLAN 111) to the TrustedDevice...

Need some recommendations for 2 switches

Thanks, coxuahs and Higgins. Coxhaus, I think you mentioned previously I could accomplish this with either L2 or L3. Is it safe to assume smart managed switch will not allow for the rules between the VLANs? I am struggling to understand the minimal layer to be able to setup VLANs, and rules...

Need some recommendations for 2 switches

Can anyone point me to a few options for switches that would meet the below needs? I will ultimately need around 40ish ports, and would look to break it into two switches, such that I can have some critical devices on a UPS, but not others. - Switches could be 24port (primary)+ 24 port...

Do Belden RevConnect Keystones fit other mfg plates

Does anyone know if Belden RevConnect Keystones fit other mfg outlet keystone plates, or is their fit strictly proprietary to their faceplates?
